David M. Weinberg is a diplomatic and defense columnist for The Jerusalem Post and Israel Hayom, and for the Jewish News Syndicate.

He is managing senior fellow at the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy in Jerusalem, a fellow at the David Institute for Security Policy, and Israel office director of Canada's Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. He writes and speaks on Israeli diplomacy and politics, religion and state, Israel and the Diaspora, antisemitism, and Jerusalem.

Public service

Thirty years in Israel

Since moving to Israel in 1990, David Weinberg has held a series of public positions.

He was senior advisor to then Deputy Prime Minister Natan Sharansky and the founding coordinator of the Global Forum against Anti-Semitism in the Prime Minister's Office. He has been spokesman of the Herzliya Conference on Israel's National Security, the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies and Bar-Ilan University. He was founding vice president and a fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, senior adviser to The Tikvah Fund in Israel, and assistant director of the Anti-Defamation League's Israel office.

Learning

Torah, history and wine

He studied international relations and history at the University of Toronto and Bar-Ilan University.

His Jewish learning came at Yeshivat Hakotel, under Rabbi Chaim Yeshayahu Hadari, and at Yeshivat Har Etzion, under Rabbi Dr. Aharon Lichtenstein. He also holds the Level 3 certificate in wine from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in London, and conducts kosher food and wine tours and tutored tastings. His sermons, university lectures and community briefings combine strategic insight with learned Jewish perspectives. He lives in Nof Ayalon, and his columns are collected at davidmweinberg.com.
