Seven nights in Alaska, from Vancouver or from Whittier

Our kosher Alaska cruise is seven nights aboard the Norwegian Jade, sailing between Vancouver in Canada and Whittier in Alaska, one way or the other. On the way are the Inside Passage, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point and a day at the face of Hubbard Glacier. Our own group is on board: Glatt Kosher Mehadrin meals cooked for the group, a minyan every day, and Shabbat kept together. The dates of the next sailing are to be announced.

7 nights on board: Board in the afternoon at Vancouver or Whittier; leave the ship early on the eighth morning at the other end.
Two routes: Last summer the group sailed north from Vancouver one week and south from Whittier the next, calling at the same ports.
Glaciers and wildlife: A day of scenic cruising at Hubbard Glacier, and the waters around Icy Strait Point, where whales feed in summer.
Meals: Glatt Kosher Mehadrin, freshly prepared for the group and served in its own dining area.

Not included: flights, airport transfers, visas where needed, shore excursions, travel insurance, the ship's gratuities of $20 per person a day, and $70 per person for the kosher supervisors.

Kashrut

A kosher kitchen for the group, on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship

The ship carries its own guests; our group eats apart from them. Every meal is Glatt Kosher Mehadrin, freshly prepared for the group alone by an executive kosher chef, under mashgichim who are responsible for the kosher kitchen, and served in a dining area that is ours.

Everything is Chalav Yisrael, Pat Yisrael and Bishul Yisrael. We choose a ship for its willingness to meet our kashrut needs, and our own cook and mashgiach sail with the group.

The ship

Your cabin on the Norwegian Jade

There are four kinds of cabin: an inside stateroom, an ocean view stateroom, a balcony stateroom and a club suite with a balcony. Prices are per person, two to a cabin. On a Norwegian Cruise Line ship you keep your own hours on board, and our group keeps its own dining area.

Inside Stateroom: About 140 sq. ft., sleeping up to four, with twin beds that convert to a queen and a shower room. No window; the best value on board.
Ocean View Stateroom: About 155 to 161 sq. ft., sleeping up to four, with a picture window or porthole onto the sea.
Balcony Stateroom: About 200 sq. ft. with a 40 sq. ft. balcony, floor-to-ceiling glass doors, and a sofa bed for a third guest.
Club Suite with Balcony: About 275 to 322 sq. ft., with a sitting area, a coffee maker, and priority boarding and leaving the ship.

Shabbat and Torah

Shabbat on board, and a minyan every day

A Sefer Torah sails with the group and there is a minyan every day of the cruise.

On the most recent sailings, Shabbat fell on Day 6 each way: in port at Icy Strait Point sailing north, and at Ketchikan sailing south. It was kept with the group, with the Shabbat meals on board. Alaska's summer days are long, so Shabbat comes in late and goes out late.

Who the cruise suits, and what the ports ask of you

A cruise is the easy way to see Alaska: much of the coast has no roads, and the ship carries you from town to town while you sleep. Two days are spent cruising, so the week has time to rest between the ports.

Our guests are mostly English speakers from the USA, Europe and Israel

August in Alaska is cool and often wet, even in summer: pack layers and a rain jacket

Cabin sizes and features are the cruise line’s, and can vary by deck and position on the ship.

The price covers the seven nights on board, every kosher meal and our own program. Flights, shore excursions and travel insurance are extra.

Asked before booking the Alaska cruise

When is the next kosher Alaska cruise?

The dates of the next sailing are to be announced. The last two sailed in August 2026: seven nights from Vancouver to Whittier, which sold out, and the week after from Whittier to Vancouver. Send an inquiry and we will tell you as soon as the next sailing is set.

Where does the cruise start and finish?

At Vancouver in Canada and Whittier in Alaska, one way or the other. You board in the afternoon of the first day and leave the ship early on the eighth morning. Whittier is on Prince William Sound, about 60 miles from Anchorage, the nearest large airport. You book your own flights.

Which ports does the cruise visit?

Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Icy Strait Point, with a day of scenic cruising in the Inside Passage and a day at Hubbard Glacier.

Is every meal kosher on the ship?

Yes. Every meal for the group is Glatt Kosher Mehadrin, Chalav Yisrael, Pat Yisrael and Bishul Yisrael, freshly prepared for the group by an executive kosher chef under mashgichim, and served in a dining area of our own. On port days a packed lunch goes ashore with you.

How is Shabbat kept on the cruise?

With the group, on board. A Sefer Torah sails with us and there is a minyan every day. On the last sailings Shabbat fell in port, at Icy Strait Point sailing north and at Ketchikan sailing south.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. The cruise starts or ends in Vancouver, so you pass through Canada as well as the United States. Check the entry rules for your own passport before you book.

Are shore excursions included?

No. Shore excursions are optional in every port and booked separately. Ask us which ones suit a day in port.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend insurance covering cancellation, medical care and luggage, bought as soon as you book so the cover is complete.
