The Ultimate Adventure in Lapland & Northern Lights

Day 1; Wednesday: Rovaniemi and the Arctic Forest

Arrive in Rovaniemi, the provincial capital of Lapland and the largest city in northern Finland. The city sits on the Arctic Circle and is known in the world as the place where “Santa Claus” prepares the Christmas presents and leaves it in a reindeer-drawn carriage to distribute them all over the world. Upon landing, we will go to the equipment center and receive appropriate equipment, which includes: a snow suit, shoes, special socks, and gloves. We will go to the Watonki area. A wild forest area, an authentic center of lumberjacks where we first felt the atmosphere of the arctic forest where nature was preserved in all its power. Dinner at hotel

Day 2; Thursday:  Sweden, Polar Explorer icebreaker, Arcticum Museum

In the early morning we will cross the border to Sweden where we will board an icebreaker for a spectacular cruise in the frozen bay. We will get to know the special ability of the ship that breaks through huge blocks of ice, in order to move past the supply ships that bring vital supplies to the residents of the area. At one of the points, the ship will create a “pool” in the frozen sea, the engines will stop, and we will be able to go down for a swim in the frozen water in special flotation suits provided by the skilled ship’s crew. . Dinner

 Day 3; Friday: Snowmobile Safari, Fishing in the Frozen Lake.

We have another and unforgettable experience of the journey ahead of us. This time we will ride snowmobiles. We will ride (self-driving) in pairs in front of the frozen landscapes of the Arctic. In sections of this journey we will pass rivers, frozen lakes and in endless forests. We will have a lunch break in one of the frozen lakes, we will get to know the special fishing methods of the local people and we will participate ourselves in this special experience. We will return to Rovaniemi on the snowmobiles. We will return to our hotels in time to get ready for Shabbat, candle lighting, and Shabbat evening meal.

Day 4; Saturday: Observation of the Northern Lights.

Tefilla, Kiddush, and Shabbat meal – a walking tour – After lunch, we will visit the “Arcticum” museum, where we can learn and get to know life in the Arctic Circle, starting with the Sami natives who live in the place of the unique animals and the history of Rovaniemi. After Havdalah and dinner we will go out to try to see the northern lights.

Day 5; Sunday: Reindeer and The Frozen Falls, Karting

This morning we will go to the reindeer farm, we will get to know the ways of life and customs of this animal that lives in extreme conditions. We will undergo a short training course in driving reindeer sleds and conduct practical preparation for certification and obtaining a certified reindeer driving license. We continue to the Puizo region in the east of Lapland to visit the Kurouma Nature Reserve to experience a special natural phenomenon – the “frozen waterfalls”. The access to the falls is through a gentle slope that descends to the falls in a wild landscape full of snow and forest. At the end of the visit to the waterfalls, we will return to Rovaniemi. Transfer to the hotel and dinner

Day 6; Monday:  The Huski dogs, Blainio Ice Palace and Levi ski village.

We will start today with a visit to the husky dog ​​farm. There we will be greeted with a typical welcome and get to know the ways of training the dogs and their care. After a short course in driving sleds we will go for a ride in the dog sleds in a wild and special area. During the drive we are determined to lap up the locals who blend in with nature. We will go north through the vast expanses of Lapland’s snow to the Blainio Ice Palace, which is rebuilt every year and serves as an active hotel, and displays amazing works of ice sculpture. Upon arrival, we will go to the observation of the area. Wecontinue to an open area for a fascinating experience driving a karting on an ice track. After training and instruction, we will be ready for a unique experience on the ice. Return to Rovaniemi. Dinner

Day 7; Tuesday: The village of Santa Claus, Rovaniemi

We will end our wonderful trip in the village of “Santa Claus”, located exactly on the Arctic Circle. The village is picturesque and houses the house of Santa Claus. Free time will be given to wander among the shops offering a variety of souvenirs that characterize the Arctic Circle. Elk horns, elk skins, amethyst jewelry, wooden toys and arctic clothing and more…At the end of the visit and according to the schedule – transfer to Rovaniemi airport
