Professor David Shyovitz is Professor of History and Jewish Studies at Northwestern University and Director of the Crown Family Center for Jewish and Israel Studies. He earned his BA, MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and studied at Yeshivat Har Etzion under Rav Aharon Lichtenstein zt”l. He has held visiting fellowships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the National Library of Israel, Cardozo School of Law and Penn’s Katz Center. A scholar of medieval Jewish cultural and intellectual history, he has published extensively on Halakhah and minhag, Jewish philosophy, mysticism, and Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Muslim relations. His award-winning book, A Remembrance of His Wonders, received the Medieval Academy of America’s John Nicholas Brown Prize. He teaches courses on Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Muslim relations, the Crusades, the Blood Libel, Jewish law and antisemitism, and is known for bringing historical scholarship and contemporary Jewish issues to life for diverse audiences. David lives in Skokie, Illinois, with his wife Adina and their four children.
