Protecting your stuff can be glamorous, too

If you're one of those people who think there's no way of protecting your stuff from getting ruined during travel, think again. Here are a few simple rules to keep everything in top shape:

• Wrap all toiletries that could leak in sealed ziploc bags within your bathroom bag.

• Always remember to pack a few ziploc bags in assorted sizes. These are great for all situations.

• Take an empty, large, lightweight plastic bag for the dirty laundry.

• Place delicate items like souvenirs and electronics closer to the middle of the suitcase, between soft clothing, to prevent them from being damaged. Separate hard things from each other with soft clothing as well.

• Traveling with wigs/sheitels? I pack each wig in a shoes box very carefully and stuff the inside of the wig with scarves or socks to help keep the shape. When I reach my destination, I take the wigs out give them a shake and a brush if needed. This way they travel fine. I have collapsible travel wig stands, but a wine bottle or vase or bottle of water (usually available in hotel rooms) work well, too. I know that many ladies travel with the traveling sheitel boxes, but I like to travel as light as possible, and I found that the shoe box method is very effective.

Follow these easy tips and they will help you protect your belongings when you travel. Keep in mind that the less you pack in the first place, the less there is to ruin and the less you will have to schlep. Expensive souvenirs should be shipped home directly, with insurance if necessary.
